Slowly but surely reading books and telling you about them

A person with long brown hair and glasses stands in front of a white background, smiling.
Hello, it’s a picture of me!

Aanii boozhoo! Allie Genia ndizhinikaaz. Waganakasing Odawakwe ndaaw, mshiiken ndodem.

Hello everyone! My name is Allie, and this is a project I’m starting up to talk about books. I’m currently working as a children’s librarian at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library. After a really special ALA Annual Conference this year, I was finally able to meet up with my Spectrum Scholar cohort (along with all of the other pandemic cohorts). That wonderful fellowship inspired me to use my voice more, and one concrete way is to write about the books I’m seeing as a children’s librarian.

One major part of why I do what I do is that I enjoy public service, particularly to kids. It’s important to me that kids have windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors! It’s also important to me that kids feel empowered to share their own stories. Hopefully, talking about books here will contribute to that in some small way.

Anyway, thanks for reading! Let me know if you have questions or suggestions – I enjoy learning about new works being published, especially if they haven’t found their way to my library system yet. Baa maa pii!
